James Gandolfini will be honored with a posthumous tribute at the 23rd Annual Gotham Independent Film Awards.
On December 2nd, Steve Buscemi will present the tribute honoring his Sopranos co-star, the late great Gandolfini.
In a recent statement by the IFP Buscemi said, ”James Gandolfini was a friend, an inspiration and, an extraordinary talent whose presence is missed by all of us who knew and loved him. It is an honor to present this tribute at the Gotham Awards recognizing his impact.”
ITM recently had an exclusive interview with another Sopranos co-star and dear friend of Gandolfini, Steve Schirripa.
Schirripa told ITM, “He just did my movie… based on one of my books, “Nicky Deuce.” We were together in May. I saw him May 20th for the last time. We’re very close friends… It’s very sad.”
ITM was heartbroken to hear Schirripa still refer to Gandolfini in the present tense. It shows that their friendship was strong and he is still coping with the loss.
There’s been some recent Oscar buzz about around “Enough Said,” one of Gandolfini’s last films to be released before his sudden passing on June 19, 2013.
Schirripa told ITM, “Enough Said” is a great movie.” And, “that’s the closest thing to what Jim was like in real life… He was a good guy, really good guy, a lot of fun.”
You can watch Steve Schirrips’s entire exclusive interview with ITM at our Thanksgiving Day celebration also starring: Helena Bonham Carter, Kevin Connolly, Bryan Greenberg, and Emmanuelle Chriqui.
