Cate Blanchett may have taken a brief break from leading roles, but last night at the Golden Globes she made a truly triumphant return!
Blanchett had not appeared in an awards-buzzworthy film since 2008’s “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” instead devoting her time to The Sydney Theatre Company. However, 2013’s “Blue Jasmine” seems to have changed that.
Before the Globes ceremony had even begun, Blanchett had already won over our hearts on the red carpet in a stunning black lace dress by Armani Privé. ITM wants to steal her style!
And, when her name was read out from that golden envelope, Blanchett bested herself with an hilarious acceptance speech
After the required thanks to Cecil B. Demille Award honoree, and “Blue Jasmine” director, Woody Allen, Blanchett extended her gratitude to the rest of the cast crew.
She thanked them for “plying me with vodka in the way that Judy Garland was probably [supplied] with barbiturates.”
And as the Globes theme began to play at the end of her speech, Blanchett spotted another opportunity for some comedy.
“Can people at home hear this music? Or do they suddenly think you’re just getting really fast and having a panic attack?” Blanchett joked.
Hosts Amy Poehler and Tina Fey better watch out – there’s another funny lady out there!
ITM caught up with Blanchett when she was in town for the Broadway run of “Uncle Vanya,” where she talks about the first love that her kept her off screen – theatre.
