This year at the 86th Annual Academy Awards, there was a new must-have accessory for any fashionable gentleman on the red carpet: their mothers!
That’s right, a number of male nominees ducked relationship rumors by choosing to bring their (very proud!) moms as their dates.
Jonah Hill and his mom Sharon Lyn Chalkin got up to some hijinks on the red carpet, “interview-bombing” Bradley Cooper. We guess Jonah had to get his trademark cheekiness from someone!
Hill’s co-star, Leonardo DiCaprio also chose to bring his mom, Irmelin Indenbirken, who stopped to pose for pics with the one and only Bono on the red carpet!
First-time nominee Michael Fassbender, whose role in long-time collaborator Steve McQueen’s “12 Years A Slave” earned him some choice seats at the Dolby Theatre, brought his mother Adele Fassbender. Smart decision, Michael – by bringing his mom he was able to cannily avoid confirming or denying rumors that he’s dating Gerard Butler’s ex-girlfriend, Madalina Ghenea.
But it was Jared Leto who trumped the rest when he won the Oscar for “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” for “Dallas Buyers Club” and made a moving tribute to his mother Constance in his acceptance speech.
“In 1971, there was a teenage girl, who was pregnant with her second child, she was a high school dropout and single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children … that girl is my mother and she’s here tonight I just want to say ‘I love you mom, thank you for teaching me to dream,” Leto said.
