The internet erupted last night when reports circulated that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was blocking access to Twitter in Turkey.

Erdogan took the drastic move to prevent incriminating recordings about himself and other government officials from being posted online, especially in the wake of recent political unrest in the country.

“We’ll eradicate Twitter. I don’t care what the international community says,” Erdogan said. “Everyone will witness the power of the Turkish Republic.”

That’s a lot of fighting talk for a social network!

However, Twitter users are fighting back, using the hashtag #TwitterisblockedinTurkey, and among them are a few famous tweeters.

Russell Crowe, Elijah Wood, Mia Farrow and Russell Brand have already tweeted their outrage.
