News Anchor and Emmy award winning journalist Katie Couric has delivered the news to Americans morning, noon, and night for the past 20 years. In 2012, Couric landed her own daytime talk show, “Katie.” Now the series, which is in its final season, just nabbed Couric another Emmy nom, the thirteenth of her career! On May 5, The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences officially announced the Daytime Emmy Nominations for 2014. Couric was nominated for Outstanding Talk Show Host alongside Dr. Mehmet Oz, Rachel Ray, and the casts of “The Talk” and “The View.” No mention of Hosting Awards for Ellen DeGeneres or Bethenny Frankel!
Apparently, “Katie” was well received for its eponymous host’s thoughtful interviewing style, allowing her to snag celebrity guests including Zooey Deschanel, Sofia Vergara, and Morgan Freeman. Yet the ratings were tepid and ABC announced in December that the show will not be renewed for another season.
Despite the cancellation, Katie has no shortage of projects on the horizon. In fact Couric’s latest project has her on the big screen narrating the upcoming documentary “Fed Up,” directed by Stephanie Soechtig. The film created quite a buzz at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival, and exposes how Big Food deceived the public about their products’ health ramifications, strategically intercut with real personal stories of challenges that significantly overweight children experience in environments that are considered safe. Soechtig told ITM Host Gina Giordan “it was a real shock to me that when we would follow these kids into school that they were being served McDonalds, Wendy’s and Arby’s.”
Couric may also be making a comeback to morning TV… Rumor has it that Katie will get her old seat back next to co-host Matt Lauer! The two will allegedly reunite on the Today show when current co-host Savannah Guthrie is on maternity leave later this year. As of now, NBC hasn’t confirmed the Today show shake-up.
