Kristen Wiig is adding yet another role to her impressive resume. This time, it’s behind the camera.
The former “SNL” actress is set to make her directorial debut with a new untitled comedy alongside her “Bridesmaids” co-scribe, Annie Mumolo. Not only will they be co-directing the film, they will also be starring in it for Tom Rothman’s TriStar Productions.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, not much is known about the film except that Wiig and Mumolo will play best friends who “find themselves in over their heads and out of their depths.”
Although the film is being speculated as a comedy, Wiig recently proved her versatility as an actress with a dramatic role in the film “Hateship Loveship.” MYWW attended a special premiere screening of the film at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art to catch up with the cast and crew.
When raving about Wiig’s diverse talents, “Hateship Loveship” Director, Liza Johnson revealed, “Even in a movie like “Bridesmaids” which in my opinion is very funny, that’s a funny movie, okay it’s funny, but even in that movie I think she does very subtle dramatic acting that takes place in between the kind of big comic set pieces and so I just really didn’t think that it would be a stretch for her in terms of her talent to do the project.”
Wiig also explained that when it comes to picking her roles, it’s not about choosing a comedy over a drama; it’s all about her connection with each individual character.
