Looks like Zayn Malik is next up in line to ruffle some feathers over Twitter.

The One Direction band member took to Twitter to announce his stance on the the Israeli-Palestinian crisis in a tweet that read #FreePalestine.

While the boy bander received praise from those who side with him over the Gaza conflict, Malik received anti-Semitic accusations as well as death threats from followers who held an opposing view of the conflict.

Malik’s tweet, which reached over 13 million followers,  has received about 207K retweets and 206K favorites and counting.

Malik may be the first One Direction member to comment on the controversy, but he’s in good company when it comes to other celebrities who have also given their two cents on the issue over social media.

Both Rihanna and basketball player Dwight Howard also tweeted but quickly deleted a “#FreePalestine” earlier this month while Selena Gomez took to Instagram to display a photo that read “It’s about humanity. Pray for Gaza.” All posts created a firestorm similar to that of Malik’s tweet, which has even pitted fans up against one another as well as the singer.

Malik seems unfazed by the backlash as his tweet remains on display for the entire Twitter-verse, two days after its posting.
