New York Yankee Derek Jeter went out with a bang last night!
The life long Yankee stepped into Yankee Stadium for the last time last night to play his final home game against the Baltimore Orioles. While everyone knew it would be an emotional game, no one could expect just how perfectly the evening would go for the 40-year-old.
At the bottom of the, ninth, Jeter hit a sharp, opposite-field single to right that knocked in the winning run making the final score 6-5. 50,000 adoring fans chanted his name as the legendary Yankee tipped his hat for the last time.
Following the game Jeter spoke during a news conference saying, “I want to take something special from Yankee Stadium. The view from shortstop here tonight is what I want to take.” He continued, ““It was above and beyond anything that I’ve ever dreamt of. It was a lot of fun.”
Fans may still see more of Jeter as he is expected to play this weekend in some capacity in Boston against Yankee rivals, The Red Sox.
As for what’s next for the legend, he says, “I’m not really giving that a lot of thought right now.”
While he may not be thinking about it yet, others can’t help but speculate. Predictions include anywhere from owning a team, becoming the world’s best pitchman or even settling down with a family. We’ll just have to wait and see!
