It’s been almost 8-months since Joan Rivers’ death and the famous comedian’s daughter, Melissa Rivers, is finally opening up about her “surreal” last moments with her mother.
The 47-year-old sat down with the “Today” show’s Matt Lauer to describe her mother’s final days.
Rivers explained that after getting the news of her mother’s cardiac arrest during a routine throat surgery, she was flying across the country to be by Joan’s side. During the flight, Rivers received emails telling her that the “Fashion Police” host was already being put into a medically induced coma and that her body temperature was dropping, which she “knew was bad because that is the protocol for catastrophic brain injury.”
Just a week after her minor throat surgery, Joan Rivers died at the age of 81.
Following the comedian’s death, Melissa filed a malpractice suit against Yorkville Endoscopy, where River’s procedure was done. Melissa told Lauer, “In my opinion, it was 100 percent preventable.”
The “Fashion Police” executive producer said she spoke to her moth the night before the procedure that led to her death and the 81-year-old simply told her, “getting old sucks.”
